I was great! Beautiful views in every direction and nobody for miles. The drive up to the cabin is just as incredible as the views while you are there. It's a super-windy, mountain road that takes about 30 minutes or so from the little town of Ouray. The road to get to the cabin is called the Million Dollar Highway and it's listed as one of the most scenic roads in America. At the top of that road is the pass (Red Mountain Pass). The cabin is at the top of the pass, around 11,000 feet, about halfway or so, between Ouray and Silverton. As far as I could tell, the cabin was the only thing up there. I didn't see any other cabins near the top, coming from the Ouray side. Ouray and Silverton are both really cool old mining towns, and fun to visit or at least go out to dinner. Anyway, the cabin is just a couple hundred feet off the road, but far enough that you can't really see the road or hear any cars. The good thing is that you don't need a four-wheel drive vehicle to get there. The cabin is large and holds about 12 people. One of the most amazing things about it is that it is totally off the grid, meaning all it's electricity comes from solar panels. At first, this may sound a little scary, but everything seems totally normal - just like home. There's a full kitchen, with a stove, sink, running water and refrigerator. The lighting is also totally normal with electric light switches and lamps etc. There's even a stereo for music (remember to bring some cds though, because the radio doesn't get any stations). For washing-up, there's a bathroom with a sink and shower (with hot water). The only backcountry issue is that there is no indoor toilet. But, it really wasn't a problem at all. There is a nice, clean outhouse just off the deck, only a few feet away. To heat the cabin, there's a wood-stove and plenty of wood. As far as activities go, in the winter, you can bring your skis, snowboard or a sled and hike up the hill right in front of the cabin. In the summer, I would imagine there's unlimited hiking. There are also a bunch of old mines to check out and take pictures of. It is a really neat place, ideal for a bunch of good friends or a big family. I had a great time and would definitely recommend it. - Tell 'em Dusty Dave sent ya!
