| Purcell Lodge / Golden, BC / 250-344-2639 www.purcell.com / places@rockies.net As the helicopter picks you up and whisks you away up into the mountains, all your cares disappear and you really do feel like you are on top of the world. The lodge is up there all by itself with no roads, phones or tvs to bother you. There is an immediate companionship that you feel with the small group of people with which you are to share in this experience of living on a deserted island in the sky. The facilities are extremely comfortable for the degree of seclusion that the lodge possesses. Besides just relaxing, reading a book, or hummingbird watching, this place is the Mecca for hiking. The guides are very well educated on both the local wildlife and the vast variety of gorgeous wildflowers that blanket the mountain meadows. There are endless hikes at all different levels of physical activity, but most are fairly moderate with just enough elevation change to get you hungry for lunch or dinner. Sorry, but don’t plan on losing any weight this trip even though you may go on several hikes a day. The food is beyond a five star restaurant and there is plenty of it. Not only does the chef have an amazing ability to create fantastic food, he also has a flair for describing it and getting your taste buds ready for the feast. The only time throughout the entire trip that I found myself unhappy was when I had to leave. It was absolutely incredible! - Tell 'em Dusty Dave sent ya! |
