| Holiday on Horseback, Warner Outfitters / Banff, Alberta / 403-762-4551 www.horseback.com / warner@horseback.com For those of you who wish to get away from civilization and immerse yourself in nature...I have found the answer: the name is Holiday on Horseback by Warner Outfitting and the place is beautiful Banff, Alberta. I did a pack-trip up in the mountains going from camp to camp via horseback. It was an absolutely perfect rustic vacation. Each day you get your gear together and give it to the packers who then put it on mules and take it ahead to the camp so that it is waiting for you when you get there. Breakfast is served buffet style, in the mess tent. The mess tent is large gathering area with rustic picnic tables, games, reading material and a very toasty wood-burning heater. After breakfast everyone gets on their horse and heads off through the gorgeous mountain wilderness until lunchtime when you stop, stretch your legs and have a little lunch cookout. After lunch you get back on your friendly transportation and head on to the camp. At the camp, everyone picks a tent and gets their sleeping bag set up for later on. There is plenty of time to relax, have some beers and just talk about the day before dinner time. Dinner is served around six and is also buffet style. After dinner everyone usually gathers around the campfire for chit chat and ghost stories. The next day is a similar routine with different things to see along the way to the next camp. I took the five day trip and I loved every minute of it. We never heard or saw a radio, tv, cell phone or even another human being for the entire trip. It was amazing and I would Highly, Highly recommended it! - Dusty Dave - P.S. As a side-note: I purchased a sleeping bag for the trip. It was called the Big Timber, by Slumberjack and was awesome! Tell 'em Dusty Dave sent ya! |
