| Hidden Treasure Yurt / Eagle, Colorado / 800-444-2813 www.backcountry-colorado-yurt.com / htayurt@yahoo.com Absolutely Awesome! That's what I thought of Hidden Treasure Yurt. Once I arrived in Eagle, Colorado, I then had to take a fairly rough dirt road for about an hour or so to actually get to the yurt (this is in the summer, in the winter you need to hike in). I loved how remote it was and how much wildlife I saw on the way up to it (it's at 11,200 ft). I saw elk, deer, rabbits and marmots enjoying the sunset along with myself. As soon as I opened the door to the yurt I couldn't believe it...it had everything! I was imagining some cramped tent with dirt floors and cots, but it was really roomy, with a big table in the center, several bunk beds and a full kitchen with gas stove, wood stove and all the pots and pans you could possibly need. There is one small catch, there is no running water, so you need to bring plenty (they suggest 1 gallon per day per person, and that worked out about right). There's also, no bathroom in the yurt, but there's a very nice outhouse just a hop-skip-and-a-jump from the door. Besides just relaxing, which a fantastic thing to do here, there are a bunch of marked trails very close to the yurt and in the winter it is supposed to be amazing for backcountry skiing. They actually have two yurts at this location, each sleeping eight people. Again, I can't say enough about how great it was. It would be perfect for a bunch of good friends to hang-out or for a unique family vacation. Give it a shot and live a little, you won't regret it! - Tell 'em Dusty Dave sent ya! |
