If you are looking for a Real Working Ranch Experience then this is definitely the place for you. While I was there I helped with sorting and branding cattle, driving the cattle out to the correct pastures and mending fences. In my free time I played roping games with the cowboys. To say that the ranch is secluded does not really even come close to describing it correctly. Imagine driving for 25 miles and seeing nothing but vast fields and passing maybe one or two ranches, then turning onto a 5 mile dirt road that takes you to another 5 mile dirt road that turns into their driveway. After arriving, we were shown to our sleeping quarters which consisted of rooms in an old log cabin with wood plank floors, antique decorations and a bucket sink. To make it even better, the cabin had a long porch that looked directly out, onto an endless pasture with horses running and playing around. I do not know if it was the incredibly, delicious food that Penny (the owner) cooked up each day or if it was the sheer purity of a simple life built on hard work and good people...which ever it was, I was hooked. There is something magical about Colorado Cattle Company and you would be an absolute fool not to visit there. - Tell 'em Dusty Dave sent ya! |
