What this means is that you will not find any hot tubs, massage tables or fancy shmancy anything. What you will find are real people that are real nice and real hard working. Nothing changes from their regular routine when you get there. They simply ask if you would like to participate in the days chores and if you say “yes” then you may find yourself in the saddle checking the herd, riding fences or helping with the irrigation system. Since the ranch is 87,000 acres (nearly the size of a small state), checking and mending one fence on one side of one pasture may take all day. When they said that one of the borders of the ranch was on the horizon line, I thought that they must be kidding, but they were serious. I go to a lot of dude ranches and do a lot of riding, but frankly, I find myself getting bored pretty quickly at most of them because everything has become such a routine for me and the riding usually consists of just head to tail trail rides. I cannot tell you how refreshing it was to ride around like a real cowboy doing authentic ranch work. This type of vacation is obviously not for everyone, but if you like to ride and don’t mind sweating a little, I say go for it! - Tell 'em Dusty Dave sent ya! |
