THE BEND BULLETIN
"The Top 100 Most Beautiful Rustic Vacations" is a well-appointed wish list as much as it is an inclusive guide book.
Written by Dusty Dave, "Rustic Vacations" is a photo-laden, full-color tour of ranches, lodges and cabins in the United States, Canada and Mexico. Rustic doesn't mean skimpy. Many of the destinations combine lodging, meals and activities in some of the most picturesque places in the world, like Sadie Cove Wilderness Lodge in Alaska, Averill's Flathead Lake Lodge in Bigfork, Mont., and Paradise Lodge & Bungalows at Lake Louise, Alberta. Dusty Dave's descriptions of each destination are accompanied by several color photos. "These treehouses are not like the ones you had when you were a kid: unless you were an extremely lucky kid," writes the author about Out 'n' About Treesort in Cave Junction. "These are unbelievably deluxe, with 18 different kinds of treehouses ranging in elevation from eight to 52 feet off the ground, along with six really neat swinging bridges." The book concludes with a section of hiking tips, jokes and ghost stories, presumably to take with you on your rustic vacation." - Jim Witty
